Dear friends, clients and enquirers,

Here is news past and future of lettings and tours in Occitania.

The beautiful Maison de l’Eglise is now available for Long term lets only. Clients who spent a summer at Esperaza are coming for a whole year next May. They will see all the seasons from the hill top (475metres alt.) of St Ferriol.

I  love January and February the most. It is so still and clear.  Temperatures rise to the 20's in the day. The exposed raw umber and sienna landscapes are mind bogglingly beautiful.  Dappled by the shade of the paysanne vineyards and orchards with a backdrop of chestnut and Holm oak forests.

The Carcassonne Penthouse is still available for short or long lets on a first come first served basis.

As always I recommend James’ site www.languedoc-france.info as a gateway to explore the wonder of the Aude.

Templar Quest Tours is in its fourth successful year.  I have made a four day tour that includes four iconic sites.  It provides a critical Introduction to the Aude’s History and Mystery  and is available for groups or individuals all year around.  Guides include published and local experts whom, combined provide an overview of the scenes, the events and the debates that have stirred up so much controversy and interest over centuries.

Our dear friend and Templar Quest guide Tim Wallace Murphy, passed away last June.  A prolific author and expert on the  Knight’s Templar in the Aude, Tim was a much loved and wonderful soul.  His memorial will be at The Original Rosslyn Inn near Edinburgh, Scotland Saturday 23rd November. It will be a celebration of his life. If you plan to attend send a message to the organisers via Tim’s Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/tim.wallacemurphy ,  or write to Jay Martin at captainjamesmartin@hotmail.com.

I am seeing less of the beloved Aude scenery in general as I have taken Guilhem to school in Oxford.  Guilhem our 11 year old has opted to become an English school bo. It has already begun to enrich and expand his experience of French schooling.

Term times are mostly in Oxford for me now and while here I have found a job that I love guiding visitors around the city.    I work with this company https://www.iloveoxford.com/visitOxford.html .   My history and art history degree and listening  to James’ tales of Medieval history have equipped me well to understand the history and sites of Oxford. My favourite tour is the University Tour but I am watching Inspector Morse diligently (with Guilhem!)  and learning about Harry Potter and the famous Alice, immortalised by Lewis Carroll.

James McDonald’s’ erudite and compelling tales of the Albegensian Crusade continue to enthrall Cathar students and researchers.  His updated site is at Cathar Country tours .

The Chateau St Ferriol Association programme of concerts and conferences will include more French language events in 20200.   Les Amis du château St Ferriol’s  annual general meeting is on 2nd November. Everyone is welcome to come and to join. This link will take you to a page where you can peruse the agenda (Convocation).

I have embarked on Social Media training .  My feed is called @Aude4Families and  is occasionally genuinely useful and funny.

A volunteer filmmaker made this drone footage of the village of St Ferriol and the surrounding area.

This interview with me tells ever such a tiny bit about the history of the chateau.

We have been on a Channel 4 programme about plucky Brits who have done the same thing as James and I with ruined chateaux in their own way. Chateau St Ferriol was in episodes 19 and 20.
